Stem Cell Therapy
What is Stem Cell therapy
Stem cell injections are regenerative treatments designed to replace and renew damaged human tissue. They are often used for chronic injuries when other therapies have failed. By using young and unspecialized stem cells for the injections, the injected cells have the capacity to turn into any healthy tissue, such as skin, ligaments, cartilage or tendon. Stem cells that are introduced into an injured area can also trigger your own body’s stem cells to become active. This process further assists the healing process. In addition, Stem cells can also increase blood vessel formation; enhancing blood flow to injured soft tissues that lack their own blood supply.
What can Stem Cell therapy treat:
Help repair ligaments and tendons
Help repair cartilage
Delay the need for joint replacement surgery
Decrease chronic pain
Quicker recovery and return to normal activities
Restore Joint function and stability
Stem Cell therapy outcome:
Patients will be able to go home the same day. Patients should avoid taking any anti-inflammatory medications such as Advil, ibuprofen, Aleve or naproxen. In approximately 4-6 weeks time, the patient will notice a reduction in pain and stiffness as well as an improvement in the function of the joint. Additional injections may be necessary to ensure the complete healing of the injured site. The number of injections required will vary between individuals. Dr. Chang will work closely with the patient to determine the appropriate number for each individual.
